This speech was made by ex-U.S. president George Bush after the 9/11 incident. The 9/11 attacks were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 Islamist terrorists affiliated with the al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Two were intentionally crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre and the other two were crashed into the Pentagon and in a field near Shanksville in rural somerset County, Pennsylvania respectively. In total, 2974 people(excluding the 19 hijackers)died, mostly of whom were civilians.
At a time where people were most confused and doubting the government, George Bush made this speech."These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat- But they have failed." George Bush stated this in a firm, decisive tone. America needed a strong leader showing determination to protect the people of the free world and thus people who were shocked and confused would take reassurance in his speech and believe in him.All in all, his speech is about how pathetically the terrorists have failed to shake America. If I was listening to this speech at such a time of tragedy, I would most probably believe that George Bush is indeed a great leader and undoubtedly believe that he will lead us through all this successfully.
